About the artist
Winston Raval is an award-winning composer, arranger, and pianist based in Los Angeles. He has a BA in Music Composition and Arranging from the University of the Philippines and took a Correspondence Course on Jazz Theory and Big Band Arranging from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
He is one of the few recipients of the Gawad Urian Award (Philippine Critics Award) for Best Music in a Film Vanishing Tribe “Ikaw ay Akin” and Lifetime Achievement Award 4th Annual San Francisco Filipino-American Jazz Festival n recognition of his artistry as a pianist, composer and arranger. He is a pioneer in the development of jazz fusion in the Philippines with the introduction of indigenous music and instruments to Pinoy Jazz. He was also recognized at the 9th Annual Filipino American Jazz and World Music Festival (JazzPhilUSA) for his Music work in an opera in 1978 entitled “Isang Munting Alamat” (A Little Folklore). The recording of the soundtrack was done in celebration of the United Nation’s International Year of the Child.
Winston also frequently plays live at weddings, corporate functions, and private events in Southern California. His music spans a variety of genres, including classical, jazz, pop, Top 40’s and Filipino hits and classics, playing music perfect for a quiet night of entertainment, wedding ceremonies, or cocktail hour!
